A consortium of Gensol Engineering Limited and Matrix Gas and Renewables Limited has bagged a contract to develop India’s first bio-hydrogen project. The project is worth Rs 1.64 billion and once operational, is expected to produce 1 tonne of hydrogen per day from converting 25 tons of bio-waste. The estimated timeline of the project is 18 months.

Additionally, for the project, the consortium has signed a contract with Westinghouse, USA, to utilise the company’s patented Pre-Gasification Plasma Induced Radiant Energy-Based Gasification System (GH2-PREGS) technology.

In August 2024, the Gensol Engineering and Matrix Gas consortium had secured the winning bid for a 237 MW hydrogen electrolyser manufacturing capacity under the production linked incentive scheme. The total cost of the order is Rs 4.5 billion. Further, in the same month, Gensol Engineering had expanded into the US market with the launch of Scorpius Trackers Inc.
