Rezolv Energy, through its subsidiary First Looks Solutions S.R.L., has inked a 10-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Bekaert  in Romania. Under this agreement, Bekaert will purchase 100 GWh of renewable power annually, cutting its annual carbon emissions by over 41,000 tonnes.

Furthermore, the renewable energy will come from the 461 MW VIFOR wind farm, developed by Rezolv and Low Carbon in Buzău County, Romania, near the Carpathian Mountains. The location benefits from excellent wind conditions, enabling the project to generate enough clean energy to power over 270,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 540,000 tonnes annually.

The project will be executed in two phases: Phase 1 will install 192 MW of capacity, with an expansion to 461 MW in Phase 2. Construction is set to be completed within 18 months, with the VIFOR wind farm expected to be operational by the end of 2025. This project will significantly contribute to the region’s energy transition and help Romania achieve its climate goals.

In February 2024, Bekaert and Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions Corporation, entered into a global partnership which includes a strategic cooperation agreement, and a manufacturing technology licence for Membrane Electrode Assemblies, a key component for Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, that will help to accelerate the advance towards green hydrogen production.
