New Delhi: Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) recently launched a new initiative, “Nayi Raah” (One Step Forward), at The Kingdom College in Bangalore. This transformative program, funded by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), aims to empower 250 underprivileged individuals with the skills necessary to thrive in the burgeoning Electric Vehicle (EV) sector. The program will train them to become proficient Electric Vehicle Service Technicians (EVST).

EV sector in India is poised for significant growth, driven by technological advancements and increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions. Recognizing this opportunity, ASDC has designed “Nayi Raah” to address the industry’s growing need for skilled EV technicians. The program will provide comprehensive training in EV maintenance, repair, and service, equipping participants with the technical knowledge and hands-on experience required to excel in this dynamic field.

“Nayi Raah represents a critical step towards building a skilled workforce capable of supporting India’s transition to electric mobility,” said FR Singhvi, President of ASDC. “By empowering individuals through specialized training, we not only bridge the skills gap but also create pathways to meaningful employment in the EV industry. This initiative underscores ASDC’s commitment to driving inclusive growth and fostering sustainability within the automotive sector.”

ASDC, a pioneer in automotive skill development, aims to enhance the employability of youth through industry-aligned training programs. With a focus on practical skills and industry-relevant certifications, ASDC collaborates closely with automotive manufacturers, training partners, and government bodies to ensure its programs meet the evolving demands of the industry.

SIDBI’s support underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in driving socio-economic development through skill enhancement initiatives. This collaboration not only funds the training but also enables ASDC to implement robust curriculum frameworks and provide state-of-the-art training facilities for the participants.

Participants in the “Nayi Raah” program will undergo rigorous training modules covering EV technology fundamentals, diagnostic techniques, battery management systems, and safety protocols. Practical training sessions will be complemented by industry internships and on-the-job training opportunities, ensuring holistic skill development and readiness for the workplace. All trainees will further be trained at TATA bus depots and employed at the 8 depots across Bangalore, providing them with real-world experience and employment opportunities within the city’s burgeoning EV infrastructure.

“At Tata Motors, we believe in empowering the future workforce with the right skills to navigate the evolving landscape of electric mobility,” said Mr. Srinivas Dhanankar, GM Head of Tenders and Purchase at Tata Motors. “We are proud to support the ‘Nayi Raah’ initiative, which aligns with our commitment to sustainability and community development. Training at our bus depots will offer participants invaluable hands-on experience, preparing them for successful careers in the EV sector.”

Shri Sandeep Varma, Chief Executive Officer of CGTMSE and Vertical Head of the Programmes for Development and Impact Vertical Initiatives of SIDBI, shared his thoughts on this initiative: “At SIDBI, we believe in the transformative power of skill development. ‘Nayi Raah’ exemplifies our commitment to fostering inclusive growth by providing underprivileged individuals with the skills they need to thrive in the evolving EV sector. This initiative is a testament to the impact of collaborative efforts in driving sustainable development and creating meaningful employment opportunities.”

“The future of mobility lies in electric vehicles, and skilled technicians are essential to support this transformation,” added FR Singhvi. “Through ‘Nayi Raah’, we aim to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to contribute meaningfully to the EV ecosystem, promoting sustainable practices and enhancing the industry’s competitiveness globally.”

ASDC invites stakeholders, media representatives, and the public to join us in celebrating the launch of Nayi Raah and witnessing firsthand the impact of this initiative on transforming lives and shaping the future of electric mobility in India.
