Saft will supply a battery energy storage system (BESS) for Gurīn Energy’s (Gurīn) energy storage project. The energy storage project is being developed in Fukushima, Japan. Saft will deliver a fully integrated lithium-ion battery system with a total of over 1 GWh of storage, together with power conversion and power management systems from its partners.
The BESS will be installed, commissioned, and serviced by Saft. Furthermore, the project being developed will be capable of providing over 240 MW of power for four hours. Construction of the project is expected to begin in 2026. The delivery will also include Saft’s I-Sight cloud supervision and data management systems featuring AI-based functionalities.
Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, specialises in advanced technology battery solutions for industry, from design and development to production, customisation, and service provision. Gurīn is a renewable energy developer. It focuses on the development, ownership, and operation of solar, wind, and BESS assets. It currently has 7 GW of solar, wind, and storage projects in various stages of development in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan.
Earlier in February 2025, Gurīn Energy completed a 75 MW solar plant in the Philippines, its first operational project in the country. The solar plant has installed 136,363 ground-mounted, energy-efficient solar photovoltaic panels. The company inked a partnership with AboitizPower’s retail electricity units Adventenergy Inc and Adventpower Inc for the offtake of the solar farm.
