Constantine Energy Storage has partnered with Habitat Energy for optimisation of three new transmission-connected battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the UK. The three projects are the Ocker Hill near Birmingham, the Whitegate near Manchester, and the Monk Fryston near Leeds.
Furthermore, each of these projects has a capacity of 57 MW and a 2.7 hour battery energy storage system. They have 171 MW/462 MWh of flexible capacity in total. These projects are expected to become operational by the summer of 2025. Additionally, Habitat Energy will lead the asset onboarding process, including acting as a control point for the three projects.
The UK’s BESS sector has been rapidly expanding. In January 2025, Statera Energy acquired a 680 MW BESS project at Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester. The project is known as Carrington Storage and is expected to be fully energised in 2026.
