Octopus Energy has revealed plans to invest £2 billion in UK clean energy projects by 2030. As part of this initiative, the company, through its Octopus Energy Development Partnership (OEDP) and the Sky fund (ORI SCSp), has signed agreements with BayWa r.e. to develop four new solar farms in Bristol, Essex, East Riding of Yorkshire, and Wiltshire.
These solar farms will have a total capacity of 222 MW, along with a 30 MW battery at one of the sites. The solar farms are projected to be operational between 2025 and 2026, generating enough energy to power 80,000 homes.
Additionally, Octopus Energy is commencing work on a 12 MW battery in Cheshire. This battery will store surplus energy and provide enough power for nearly 10,000 homes when needed. The company is already backing a range of renewable energy projects, including 16 onshore wind farms, 3 offshore wind farms, 3 battery projects, 138 solar farms, and numerous rooftop solar installations across the UK.
In August 2024, Octopus Energy Generation and LONGi signed an MOU to integrate LONGi into Octopus’s preferred supplier list, with plans to finalise a solar panel supply deal for future solar farm projects, utilising LONGi’s market position.
