Ava Community Energy partners for EV charging expansion

Ava Community Energy (Ava), a clean energy provider, has announced plans to expand access to public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within its service area. The company will partner with Calibrant Energy to install 86 public direct-current fast-chargers (DCFC) at 11 locations across six cities. This collaboration follows Ava’s 2023 partnership with EV Realty, which will result in the construction of 32 additional chargers in downtown Oakland.

Calibrant Energy CEO Matt Walz commented on the importance of such collaborations in facilitating the energy transition and supporting the growth of EVs. Ava is taking steps to scale the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and contribute to California’s decarbonized transportation goals. The company will use an energy tolling agreement structure to finance its EV charging network.

Calibrant Energy and EV Realty will help develop the first 11 fast-charging hubs of Ava’s DC fast-charging network, located in various cities across the service area. The chargers will be powered by Ava’s Renewable 100 service and will be accessible to the public 24/7. The Calibrant Energy partnership is expected to come online in 2025, while the EV Realty partnership aims for completion by the end of 2024.

Ava will locate all EV fast-charging sites in publicly accessible areas near “multifamily hotspots,” which have high concentrations of renters. Each charging station will be positioned close to local businesses and services for convenience.
