Results for NTPC Limited’s auction to develop 1,500 MW of inter-state transmission system (ISTS) connected wind-solar hybrid power projects, tranche IV, have been announced. The tender for the project was issued in December 2023. The projects will be located anywhere in India. ABC Cleantech (Axis Energy) has won 750 MW by quoting Rs 3.27 per kWh. While Juniper Green Energy has won 300 MW by quoting Rs 3.29 per kWh. Other companies have won the following capacities: ACME Cleantech Solutions – 150 MW and ReNew Solar Power – 300 MW by quoting a tariff of Rs 3.32 per kWh.

The projects are required to be commissioned within 24 months of the power purchase agreement (PPA) being signed. At least one of the project’s resources (wind or solar) must have a rated power capacity equivalent to or exceeding 33 per cent of the total contracted capacity. The developers of the project can choose to propose hybrid projects with or without an energy storage system (ESS). Nevertheless, if the energy storage system (ESS) is charged using a source other than a combination of wind or solar power, it will not meet the criteria for hybrid power. Projects that are either completed or in the process of being completed, without a long-term PPA with any agency, and those that sell hybrid power on a merchant or short-term basis will also be given consideration for the tender. These projects must not have been approved under state or central programs and should not be obliged to distribute power to any other recipients. The chosen developers are allowed to position their hybrid projects anywhere within India, utilising the land they have identified and acquired. The projects’ solar and wind components may be situated in the same or different areas. The developers are tasked with establishing ISTS connectivity for the projects, ensuring a minimum 220 kV voltage level at the point of interconnection.
