Electricite du Laos Transmission Company Limited (EDL-T), a joint venture between China Southern Power Grid (CSG) – one of China’s two major grid companies, and staterun Electricite du Laos (EDP), has commenced operations.

EDL-T, which was created after a deal struck in 2020, will serve as Laos’ national power grid company and work on interconnection projects between Laos and its neighbours. Earlier in 2021, the government of Laos and CSG had signed a 25-year concession agreement to allow it to build and manage a large part of the country’s power grid. At that time, it was announced that EDL-T would invest USD2 billion in Laos’ power grid and manage the grid for 25 years, after which it would be transferred back to the government.
