Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the world’s largest renewable solar and wind energy park in Gujarat’s Kutch and another desalination plant, on December 15, 2020. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani informed that PM Modi will be in Gujarat on December 15, 2020, to inaugurate what will be the world’s largest solar and wind energy park.

“PM will be arriving in Gujarat on 15th to inaugurate two works. One is the inauguration of the world’s largest renewable energy park with a capacity of 30,000 megawatts (MW) from solar and wind energy,” the CM stated.

According to him, the other project or the second programme is the inauguration of a desalination plant set up at Mandvi to provide drinking water to the public and industries.

Recently, PM Modi participated in the 15th G20 Summit convened by Saudi Arabia in a virtual format, on 21-22 November 2020. In his address, Modi claimed that India will meet its goal of 175 GW of renewable energy capacity target well before the target 2022 and that India is now more focused on reaching its next target of 450 GW capacity by 2030.

He underscored the importance of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals aimed at ‘leaving no one behind’. He said that India is following the same principle in the ‘Reform-Perform-Transform’ strategy to move forward and inclusive development efforts that are participative.

He further added that India is not only meeting Paris Agreement targets but will be exceeding them. He emphasized that India has been inspired by its traditional ethos of living in harmony with the environment and has adopted a low carbon and climate-resilient development approach.

Prior to that, the PM had also attended the 8th Convocation of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. At the ceremony, the PM said that the country is moving forward with the goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 30-35 percent over the coming years. He also laid the foundation stone for a 45 MW production plant of monocrystalline solar PV panels at the ceremony.
