Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has signed a MoU with the government of Andhra Pradesh to develop up to 7,000 MW of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid systems, with or without storage. The estimated investment for these projects is approximately Rs 490 billion. As part of the initiative, TPREL will conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and preliminary project development, while the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh will facilitate site identification and support evacuation infrastructure.
Reportedly, these projects will be developed under Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, which aims to establish over 160,000 MW of renewable energy capacity with an investment potential of Rs 10 trillion. Furthermore, this agreement is expected to bolster Andhra Pradesh’s position as a renewable energy hub, reinforcing its commitment to large-scale clean energy deployment and long-term sustainability. Additionally, beyond strengthening the renewable energy sector, the MoU is anticipated to contribute to the state’s economic growth by generating employment, fostering skill development, and supporting local businesses.
In January 2025, TPREL signed an MoU with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency to promote rooftop solar adoption in Odisha under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with TPREL managing power distribution through Odisha’s four distribution companies under a public-private partnership model.
