Tamil Nadu has issued the Repowering, Refurbishment and Life Extension Policy 2024 for wind energy generators (WEG).

All WEGs that have completed their operational life period of 20 years will have to compulsorily opt for a repowering, refurbishment or a life extension project. For other WEGs, participation is voluntary. Further, the repowering, refurbishment, or life extension of state transmission utility connected projects will be implemented through the state nodal agency. For sale of power, if any WEG opts for repowering, they will be allowed 18 months for repowering and one year for refurbishment from the date of approval for execution of repowering and refurbishment respectively.  During the period of repowering or refurbishment of the WEG, they will be allowed to draw power from the grid for project completion. The repowered and refurbished projects can self-consume or sell the excess power generated to other entities at prevailing tariffs.
