Skyborn Renewables, part of the Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) portfolio, has entered a significant US offshore wind partnership by acquiring a 50 per cent stake in the Revolution Wind and South Fork Wind projects from Eversource Energy. With Orsted holding the remaining 50 per cent in both ventures, Skyborn will co-manage these developments.
Revolution Wind, a 704 MW offshore wind farm set to connect to Rhode Island and supply both Rhode Island and Connecticut, is under construction and expected to be operational by 2026. It holds 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with local utilities, supporting regional clean energy targets. South Fork Wind, a 132 MW project off Montauk Point, New York, began delivering power in 2024 under a 20-year PPA with Long Island Power Authority. JPMorgan Securities LLC and Greenhill acted as financial advisors, with Vinson & Elkins as legal advisors to GIP.
Earlier this year, Skyborn Sweden submitted a permit application to the Swedish government and Land and Environment court for the development of the 3,000 MW Polargrund Offshore wind farms. It is located 35 km off the coast, south of Kalix and Haparanda, Polargund Offshore.
