Rolls-Royce Holdings has announced an order for a 32.6-MW/65.2-MWh battery storage system to supplement the Zeewolde wind farm in the Netherlands. The turn-key contract is from Battery Park Zeewolde and includes a 10-year maintenance agreement. Rolls-Royce’s mtu EnergyPack QG system is set to launch in the summer of 2025. It will help the client in the markets for grid services and energy trading.

The 320-MW repowered Zeewolde wind farm and the new battery farm are owned by over 200 Zeewolde farmers, citizens, and enterprises. The Zeewolde battery plant is under construction near to the Zeewolde wind farm substation. As per the statement, a final investment is currently being sought for the 140-MWh BES Vogelweg Zeewolde BV venture, which is another planned battery project located near the substation.

In May 2023, Rolls-Royce Holdings and ABO Wind AG completed a crossbreed solar and battery nuclear power facility in Bavaria, Germany, capable of producing 10,000 MWh per year. In addition to avoiding about 6,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the generation can meet the needs of about 3,000 three-person homes. The UK aerospace company’s Power Solutions division also announced that it had given ABO Wind’s newest solar farm in Bavaria a 2.9 MW/5.8 MWh mtu EnergyPack QG battery storage system.
