Philippine TransCo to build new transmission facilities for renewable projects

The Philippine state-run National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) has announced that it will be undertaking the construction of transmission facilities for renewable energy that are not yet identified under the Transmission Development Plan (TDP), prepared by the National Grid Corporation of Philippines, the private concessionaire of the Philippines’ transmission network.

This is expected to be mandated by an Executive Order (EO) that is likely to be issued by the Office of the President soon. The EO will stipulate that TransCo is to build and tap public-private partnerships for financing transmission facilities that are not included in the TDP, specifically for renewable energy. The company is also exploring different options of financing for the targeted transmission projects that will be strategically installed for renewable facilities – including the offshore wind farm projects.
