The Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has been awarded PFC Consulting’s inter-state transmission system (ISTS) project to evacuate renewable energy from the Gadag and Koppal regions in Karnataka. The tender for the project was floated in July 2024.

The project scope includes the development, operation, and maintenance of transmission infrastructure on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis, integrating renewable energy projects in these regions. The Koppal-II and Gadag-II power stations are expected to be operational by December 2025, and are key components of India’s more extensive plan to achieve 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030. Ongoing implementation for Koppal-II Phase-A involves two 1500 MVA, 765/400 kV ICTs, two 500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs, and four 220 kV line bays, with similar work underway for Phase-B. Gadag-II Phase-A includes the implementation of two 500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs and four 220 kV line bays.

In October 2024, the PGCIL secured two REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) tenders to establish inter-state transmission systems for evacuating 12 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Bikaner complex under Phase IV of the state’s renewable energy zone, including new 765/400/220 kV substations and transmission lines across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab.
