Nxtra by Airtel has signed a power wheeling agreement with AMPIN Energy Transition for the supply of 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid energy through interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected projects. Under the new agreement, Nxtra will receive an additional 205,167 MWh of renewable power annually, delivered in two phases through captive ISTS-connected hybrid projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka. Additionally, it brings the total contracted renewable energy capacity between Nxtra and AMPIN to over 200 MW.
Previously, AMPIN had been supplying solar power to Nxtra through intra-state open access projects in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. The new arrangement expands AMPIN’s renewable energy delivery to 11 additional states, using ISTS infrastructure to implement a national-scale clean energy solution for Nxtra. Furthermore, the expanded partnership is expected to improve infrastructure efficiency across Nxtra’s operations.
Nxtra, by Airtel a data center company founded in 2013, currently meets 41 per cent of its data center energy requirements through renewable sources. The company is also pursuing other sustainability initiatives such as zero-discharge data centers and the deployment of fuel cell technologies.
