NTPC Issues Tender for 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System

NTPC Limited has issued a request for proposals for the establishment of 250 MW/ 500 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS). The project will be located at its thermal power stations in Godarwara and Solapur. The bid submission deadline is July 18, 2024.

To be eligible, the bidders must have experience in manufacturing and supplying batteries for grid-connected BESS of 40 MW capacity or higher, with at least one system having a capacity of 10 MW or more. The referenced BESS should have been operational for at least six months prior to the bid opening date. Integrators of grid-connected BESS projects that meet the aforementioned criteria are also eligible to submit bids. Indian bidders must have either a technical collaboration agreement, a manufacturing license, or a joint venture with a battery manufacturer. They must provide a technical collaboration agreement with the battery manufacturer that remains valid until the end of the operation and maintenance period.

The bidders should have completed an industrial project in sectors such as power, steel, oil and gas, petrochemicals, fertilisers, cement, coal mining, or any other process industry within the last ten years. The value of each project must be Rs 1.65 billion or more. Furthermore, they must have completed at least one electrical substation with a voltage level of 33 kV or higher, including equipment like circuit breakers and power transformers of 33 kV or higher voltage level. Both (project and substation) should have been successfully operational for at least one year prior to the bid opening date.
