NTPC Green Energy Limited has issued a tender for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a 130 MW/520 MWh grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS) to be developed on a turnkey basis. The project is divided into two sites: 100 MW/400 MWh at NTPC Ramagundam and 30 MW/120 MWh at NTPC Sipat.
According to the tender guidelines the scope of work covers comprehensive execution, including design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of the BESS units. The BESS are required to be integrated at the 33 kV pooling substations of the respective solar plants. The capacity to be considered is the rated AC discharge at the point of injection or metering. Each BESS unit must be installed in a standardised container, with a minimum direct current capacity of 5 MWh.
Furthermore, the design must ensure that the complete system, including batteries, is capable of operating for 15 years. This lifespan is based on the assumption of daily single-cycle operation, starting from the successful completion of the trial run.
