Already since the 1990s, the well-established family business Mayr power transmission has been serving the Indian market via a sales partnership with a local authorized dealer. Recently, however, the globally active company has opened its own production plant in Halol near Vadodara in the state of Gujarat. This means Mayr power transmission can produce safety brakes and clutches directly on site for the local market, ensuring safety and reliability in machines and systems. The up-and-coming Indian market is now well established in the high-tech segment in many areas.

Mayr power transmission has opened the next chapter in the company’s 125-year history. In addition to the headquarters in Mauerstetten in Bavaria (Germany), Ostrzeszów in Poland (1994) and Zhangjiagang in China (2006), the long-established medium-sized company opened its fourth production facility in India toward the end of 2024. “The plant in Halol near Vadodara is not so much about breaking new ground in India,” explains Thomas Gebler, Director Sales for Mayr India. “After all, we have worked successfully with a local sales partner there for more than 30 years. This valuable foundation has ensured that we have continued to develop and that our brand has achieved a certain level of recognition. So now it was time to take the next step.”

By manufacturing locally, the expert for safety brakes, torque limiters and shaft couplings is now able to meet the demand for Mayr products “made in India” and thus serve the Indian market directly. “Our aim here is to create added value locally and to be able to supply the local market competitively,” explains Ferdinand Mayr, CEO of the Mayr Group. The up-and-coming region has already arrived in the high-tech segment in many areas, with applications such as in the fields of robotics and medical technology on the rise. “The global economy is in a state of constant change, now more than ever,” summarizes the CEO. “Market management is at times a balancing act that needs to be mastered.”

Mayr power transmission is a component manufacturer with the highest quality standards, as its products stand for safety and reliability in machines and systems. “With our strategy and our different plants, we are well positioned to master the complexity and different technological levels,” explains Christian Tanner, Director Operations for Mayr India. “By using the same test benches in all our plants, we can guarantee high quality standards locally and at the same time tap into cost potential for local markets.” Thomas Gebler draws his conclusions about the advantages of the German-Indian cooperation and the objectives: “We combine the efficiency and meticulousness of the people from the Bavarian Allgäu region with the forward-thinking determination of our Indian colleagues to conquer the market with the highest growth rates worldwide. Both sides benefit from this opportunity to learn from each other.”
