The state-owned Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has energised the 94-km, 132 kV Isinya–Namanga transmission line project to enhance power supply reliability in Namanga town and its surroundings.

The region was previously served by a 140- km, 33 kV medium voltage line from another state-owned power utility, Kenya Power and Lighting Company’s (Kenya Power) 66/33 kV substation near Kitengela. The new infrastructure will channel stable power from KETRACO’s 132/33 kV substation in Namanga. The 33 kV line to Namanga from Kitengela had previously impacted the reliability and quality of power in the region. The new transmission line now enables a steady power flow from the Olkaria geothermal fields and Kipeto wind plant to Namanga. Jointly funded by the Kenyan government and the Export Import (EXIM) Bank of India, and executed by contractor North China Power Engineering (China), the new transmission line will have a positive impact on technical losses and voltage conditions in Isinya, Kajiado, Kumpa, Abisil, Nyatatoek, Namanga, and surrounding areas.
