Hindustan Power has received a letter of intent (LoI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited to develop a 120 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS). The project was secured by Hindustan Power through tariff-based competitive bidding, and will be implemented on a build-own-operate-transfer basis. The projects will be set up at three substations in the state, Bhagalpur, Udakishanganj, and Sitamarhi, each with a storage capacity of 40 MWh.
The project forms part of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s approved 500 MWh BESS initiative in Bihar. It is aimed at improving grid flexibility and managing peak-hour demand through enhanced storage capacity. The scheduled commissioning date for the full capacity of the project is 18 months from the date of signing of the battery energy storage purchase agreement.
In April 2025, Hindustan Power secured a 425 MW solar project in Uttar Pradesh through a competitive e-reverse auction conducted by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, with a 25-year power purchase agreement and a commissioning timeline of 24 months.
