GAIL India Limited (GAIL) and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) have entered a joint venture (JV) agreement to develop large scale renewable energy projects and transfer existing gas-based power assets in Rajasthan. The JV company will develop around 750 MW of solar and 250 MW of wind capacity, which are expected to be bundled with the existing gas-based power output to ensure efficient and complementary power generation.
Furthermore, under the agreement, two gas-based power plants, one of 330 MW capacity in Dholpur and another with a capacity of 270.5 MW at Ramgarh, will be transferred to the JV company. The JV company will be incorporated initially as a wholly owned subsidiary of RVUNL, and GAIL will infuse equity to become an equal partner.
Earlier in July 2025, Oriana Power’s wholly owned subsidiary, Truere Knight, signed a battery energy storage purchase agreement with RVUNL to develop a 50 MW/100 MWh standalone battery energy storage system at Heerapura substation in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
