Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) have started construction on two sections of the 500 kV Circuit-3 Transmission Line project.

This includes the Quang Trach–Quynh Luu and Quynh Luu–Thanh Hoa lines as well as the 500 kV Thanh Hoa substation, in the provinces of Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, and Thai Binh. Also known as the Quang Trach–Pho Noi line, the project is expected to cost around VND22 trillion project. The 519-km-long transmission line will pass through 211 communes and wards across 43 districts and townships in the provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen. Once completed, the transmission line will improve the capacity of the 500 kV north-central power transmission grid, stabilising the electricity supply to Northern Vietnam. Additionally, the new lines will also contribute to the overall stability and efficiency of the national power system while mitigating the risk of overloading existing 500 kV transmission lines.
