AMEA Power has achieved financial closure for Egypt’s first utility-scale BESS.
The 300 MWh BESS project is an extension of AMEA Power’s 500 MW solar PV plant in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate, which was commissioned in December 2024. A loan of USD72 million has been secured from the International Finance Corporation to support the BESS’s development and integration. It is the first project progressing under Egypt’s 4 GW emergency renewable energy programme, aimed at addressing peak power demand and reducing dependence on imported natural gas. The BESS project was constructed in approximately six months from the signing of the project agreements, and is scheduled for commissioning in July 2025.
