Coal India Limited (CIL) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) have signed a MoU to jointly establish a 500 MW solar power project in Uttar Pradesh. The MoU includes provisions that may enable further joint efforts between the entities in renewable energy development.
CIL has set a target of installing 3,000 MW of solar capacity by the financial year (FY) 2025–26. This target is expected to increase to 5,000 MW by FY 2029–30 across various locations in the country.
In December 2024, CIL awarded KPI Green Energy Limited a Rs 13.11 billion contract to develop a 300 MW grid-connected ground-mounted solar project at Khavda Solar Park, Gujarat, covering design, engineering, procurement, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning.
