Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) has announced the auction results for its 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) tender. Barbrik Projects has been awarded 37.5 MW/150 MWh, Prostarm Info Systems won 30 MW/120 MWh, Hindustan Thermal Project won 30 MW/120 MWh, Suryam International won 10 MW/40 MWh, Kundan Green Energy won 10 MW/40 MWh, and Saatvik Green Energy won 7.5 MW/30 MWh. All capacities have been awarded at a tariff of Rs 444,000 per MW per month. The tender was floated in March 2025.
The minimum bid size allowed was 5 MW/20 MWh, and the bidders could apply for up to the full tendered capacity of 125 MW/500 MWh. Additionally, viability gap funding support of up to Rs 2.7 million per MWh or 30 per cent of the capital cost, whichever is lower, will be provided.
The BESS projects must be made available to the state transmission utility for charging and discharging on an on-demand basis and connected to the grid at a minimum voltage of 33 kV. Moreover, the BESS projects must also be integrated with the transmission network, as per the despatch instructions issued by the state load despatch centre in consultation with the discoms. The developers must employ commercially established and operational technologies to minimise risks and ensure timely commissioning.
