Torrent Power Limited has received a Letter of Award from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for the long-term supply of 2,000 MW of energy storage capacity. This will be supplied from Torrent Power’s ISTS Connected hydro Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) in Maharashtra. This includes the 1,500 MW, for which MSEDCL had already issued a Letter of Intent in September 2024.
The company has now been awarded an additional 500 MW under the tender, bringing the total allocated capacity to 2,000 MW. The power will be supplied for a period of 40 years. As per the Energy Storage Facility Agreement (ESFA), Torrent Power will provide MSEDCL with 2,000 MW of contracted capacity, capable of a scheduled discharge of 8 hours per day (with a maximum of 5 continuous hours). The input energy required for charging will be supplied by MSEDCL.
Torrent Power has also announced plans to install approximately 5 to 8 GW of pumped storage capacity, with an investment ranging from Rs 250 billion to Rs 350 billion.
