In his speech on the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi underscored the critical role of green jobs in India’s climate change strategy. He highlighted that the country is now focused on green growth and green jobs, aiming to create employment opportunities while advancing environmental protection. The Prime Minister through his speech reaffirmed India’s commitment to becoming a global leader in green hydrogen production and emphasized the goal of generating sustainable jobs in environmental conservation and renewable energy sectors.
Additionally, PM Modi reiterated India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. He noted that India is unique among the G20 nations for having met its Paris Accord goals, underscoring the country’s dedication to its climate change commitments.
Previously, PM Modi had launched the National Hydrogen Mission during India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations in 2021. Through this mission, India aims to become the new global hub for green hydrogen, and also its major exporter. Moreover, plans are in place to make it mandatory for refineries and fertiliser plants to procure a set percentage of green hydrogen.
