The Indian prime minister has recently unveiled a new initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana, aiming to deploy rooftop solar systems for 10 million households throughout India. The initiative seeks to diminish the power costs for low and middle-income households while fostering India’s self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

Earlier in January 2024, REC Limited was designated as the main executor for the rooftop solar initiative by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Furthermore, in order to expedite the widespread acceptance of grid-connected rooftop solar systems, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has recently issued directives to streamline the implementation and application procedures for rooftop systems and sanctioned updated benchmarks for central financial assistance in Phase-II of the rooftop solar programme.
