Last year, HyperloopTT announced the start of a feasibility study for ‘Hyper Transfer’, a hyperloop prototype to carry cargo and passengers, which is set to be the world’s first operational commercial hyperloop system connecting Venice-Mestre and Padua, in Italy.

Now, the Hyper Transfer hyperloop project has officially completed its feasibility study phase, marking a pivotal moment as HyperloopTT and its partners move toward making hyperloop transportation a commercial reality.

Governor Luca Zaia, President of Veneto, made the announcement at the Transport Logistic 2025 fair in Munich, declaring: “It is not a futuristic vision but a concrete project born in Veneto… A revolutionary technology, strongly desired by the Veneto Region, which is now entering its operational phase.”

The feasibility study has been validated by both the University of Padua and Italferr (the design company of Ferrovie dello Stato), confirming the project’s viability using existing or tested technologies that are ready for industrialisation. This isn’t theoretical anymore- it’s engineering fact.

The project is now moving to its next critical phase: construction of the first test track in Veneto, spanning approximately 10 km between Padua and Venice. As Governor Zaia emphasised, this represents “a key step: from the concept to the field verification, on a 1:1 scale, of the technologies used.”

The powerhouse consortium behind this achievement includes HyperloopTT, the Los Angeles-based transportation and technology licensing company that has been working toward this milestone since 2013. The consortium includes:

  • HyperloopTT as the technology provider and designated designer
  • Webuild (Italy’s largest engineering contractor and global construction leader)
  • Leonardo (multinational aerospace, defense, and security giant)
  • Hyperloop Italia (HyperloopTT’s Italian licensee)

The test track will serve as a comprehensive proving ground for every component—from passenger and cargo capsules to safety systems and energy management technologies.

When operational, Hyper Transfer will dramatically reduce travel times between Venice-Mestre and Padua while cutting traffic congestion, energy consumption, and emissions. The system is designed to be expandable, potentially revolutionising transportation across the broader Veneto region.

HyperloopTT’s journey to this milestone began when their consortium “Hyper Builders” won the successful bid in June 2023 for a tender issued by Venetian Motorway Concession (CAV). This followed a memorandum of understanding between Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure, CAV, and the Veneto region. As HyperloopTT CEO Andrés de León stated at the project’s launch: “This is the moment HyperloopTT has been working towards since 2013.”
