GAIL India Limited and AM Green (AMG) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop solar-wind hybrid projects in India, with a capacity of up to 2.5 GW. This agreement also includes a study on how to use about 350 kilotons of CO2 produced by GAIL at its gas processing plants to create e-methanol using renewable energy.
The solar-wind hybrid projects will include energy storage systems to provide power at all times. This power will support the production of e-methanol by AMG and other operations. The ammonia produced will meet the European Union’s renewable fuels of non-biological origin standards outlined in the renewable energy directive. Their facility in Kakinada is already pre-certified for this standard, while other facilities are in the pre-certification process.
In September 2024, RWE Supply & Trading and AM Green Ammonia B.V. (AMG) signed a MoU for the long-term provision of 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from AMG’s facilities in India. In May 2024, GAIL India Limited commissioned its maiden green hydrogen facility located at Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh. The plant has a capacity to produce 4.3 tonnes per day of hydrogen with a purity of 99.999 per cent.
