Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the development of the Al Sila Wind Independent Power Project (IPP). Once operational, the project is expected to generate up to 140 MW of renewable energy and displace 190,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
Furthermore, the RFP is being issued to 16 companies and consortiums that qualified for this stage after submitting statements of qualification. These companies were shortlisted following the expression of interest process in October 2024. The successful developer or developer consortium will own up to 40 per cent of the entity, while the Abu Dhabi Government will indirectly hold the remaining stake.
Additionally, the developer will ink a long-term PPA with EWEC. This PPA will be structured as an energy purchase agreement and EWEC will pay only for the net electrical energy supplied by the plant. Developers can submit responses to the RFP by the second quarter of 2025.
In January 2025, EWEC issued a RFP to pre-qualified companies for the development of the Zarraf Solar PV independent power producer project. The project is located in the Al Zarraf area of the Al Dhafra region and will have a 1,500 MW power generation capacity.
