The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), under the Ministry of Power, has signed a MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee to jointly work on research, capacity building, and knowledge sharing across the electricity and energy sector. As part of the agreement, CEA personnel will gain access to IIT Roorkee’s short-term project work and online courses aimed at enhancing technical capabilities. The institutions will also undertake joint studies in electricity planning and transition.
Furthermore, the collaboration will focus on key areas such as hydropower and pumped storage, clean energy transition, renewable energy integration, distributed generation, and improving flexibility in power systems. The MoU will also support interdisciplinary research in areas including decarbonisation, water neutrality, energy efficiency, and just transition frameworks.
Emerging technologies identified for cooperation include green hydrogen, electric mobility, energy storage, biomass co-firing, and geothermal energy. Additionally, work will be undertaken on emission inventories, pollution estimation, climate vulnerability assessments of energy infrastructure, and power supply quality and reliability. The agreement also includes cooperation in developing standards for electric vehicles and battery recycling. Both parties will share data, facilities, and research outcomes, subject to confidentiality agreements and mutual consent.
