A consortium of Hitachi Energy India and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a contract to establish a 6,000 MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link, spanning 950 kms, from Bhadla in Rajasthan to Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. The contract has been signed with Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Limited.
BHEL will provide key equipment for the new project, including converter transformers, shunt reactors, filter bank capacitors, medium voltage switchgear, and instrument transformers from its Bhopal plant, along with thyristor valves from its Bengaluru-based electronics division. Additionally, BHEL’s transmission business group will be responsible for the design, supply, and installation of the 765 kV/400 kV power evacuation system at the Fatehpur terminal and the 400 kV AC substation at Bhadla and its extension.
The ±800 kV bi-pole and bi-directional HVDC terminals are expected to be operational by 2029. This project is designed to transmit renewable energy to key industrial and transport hubs and can reportedly supply power to around 60 million households across India.
